Artist Statement: I make wheel-thrown functional porcelain cups. Forms are altered to feel comfortable in one’s hand. Acertain intimacy is felt as the lip of a cup touches the lips of the user. The surface is treated as a canvas that allows the user to visually enjoy joyously coloured, abstractshapes (influenced from my earlier career as a microbiologist) that are outlined in black. Texture isadded to remind one of the soft nature of clay before it is fired.I hope using my cups allow the user slow down and be enriched through the daily ritual of their use.
