Description: Art Deco Lime
Materials and process: My work is wheel thrown stoneware fired to cone 6. I apply personally formulated glazes, giving a nod to the art deco style and emphasizing the fuming of the glaze on the clay. My glazes are functionally strong and I feel unique within the marketplace. Each bottom is sanded smooth. My work is tested in my home for durability and function. All work is dishwasher and microwave safe. Approx. mug size is 4” high x 5”wide (including handle)
About the artist: Toni Losey, is a Ceramic Artist working in the city of Dartmouth, NS. She received her BFA from NSCAD in 2018. While there she drew upon her 15 years of experience as a studio potter to develop an exciting body of sculptural work. She had the opportunity to show this work at SOFA Chicago, NCECA, and in several private and public gallery spaces. She has been published in Ceramics Monthly and has taught workshops and classes at NSCAD, NSCCD and several other community studios.
Artist Statement: I have always been aware of the connection between each form I create and the environment it will exist in. I consider the homes it will inhabit and the hands that will hold it - the relationship between the vessel and its user inspires my forms and surface. Deceptively simple objects offer sophisticated moments where fingers discover defined texture between exposed clay and art deco themed glaze, lips rest on a smoothly glazed portion of bare rim, and thumbs settle into a soft indentation on a hand pulled handle. These intimate moments offer quiet contemplation in our otherwise busy lives.
