Description: Oval teacup with red rose, 2018, porcelain, wood-fired.
Materials and process: Wheel-thrown porcelain, stamped into the still soft walls, leaving subtle indentations on the interior. Stamping patterns have fine details, some of which are covered by thick juicy glaze, some left bare and exposed to the flashing from the wood-firing. The teacup (14 oz) is thick walled, and oval. The rose is a vintage decal, applied and fused to the wood-fired glaze in a third firing. This lighter shino has silver freckles, from the wood ash.

Artist Statement: A love of cooking and the social gatherings surrounding food are at the heart of why I make tableware - to connect intimately, through use, to my audience. I am drawn to the materiality of ceramics - the plasticity of the clay, the juiciness of slip, the glassiness of glaze, and how each responds to the process - touch, tool, heat. The details; line quality, how interior and exterior meet at a carefully considered rim, how glaze reacts over a textured ; these are how I hope my pots work their way into becoming the significant objects in your lives.
