About the artist: I am a woodfire potter living and working in rural Manitoba. I have two little boys that fill my days with joy and inspire me to create. My studio is located on my families farm, where the rural setting is reflected in my earthy, wheel thrown work. I graduated with my Fine Arts degree from the University of Manitoba and have been living and loving pottery since then.

Artist Statement: Creating surfaces that capture and display the atmosphere within her wood kiln drives how Jen Sonnenberg creates her functional wheel thrown pottery. Using porcelain and stoneware, much of her work is altered once thrown, allowing her to create surfaces that play with the unique atmospheric qualities of the kiln. As a result, her pieces capture movement, depth and a spirit that is unique to each creation. With her studio located in rural Manitoba, the earthy, rich surfaces of her work reflect her strong connection to nature.
