The Aberfoyle Potters’ Market, held every year on the last weekend in October at the Puslinch Community Centre, is the creation of local potter Barbara Murphy. Building on the popular and familiar brand of the local Guelph Potters’ Market the Aberfoyle show is in its second year and building a strong following. Murphy, a constant at the Guelph Potters’ Market, approached the creators of the Guelph show, Jessica Steinhauser (of Kachelofen fame) and Melissa Farquhar of Quintissential Clay to see if they were interested in expanding the brand to include a fall Show. At that time Steinhauser and Farquar we happy with the one show but encouraged Murphy to go ahead and feel free to use the Guelph show brand.

Skip forward four years and here we are at the second Aberfoyle Potters’ Market show! Thirty two potters and ceramic artists from Ontario come together again to show and sell their work to local collectors and pottery lovers. Ceramics and pottery is very popular in The Golden Triangle, which includes Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph and Cambridge Ontario. There are hundreds of potters in this region spending their lives and making there livings in their studios.

Some of the artists that will be a strong draw for the public this year are Kitchener ceramic artist Becky Webster, Kim Harcourt Roman of Shelberne, Natalie Prevost of Paris, Emma Smith, Jerseyville, Greg Voisin, Hamilton, Indira Singh, Waterloo, Jordan Scott, London and Melissa Schooley of Raging Bowl Pottery in Windham Centre. These makers have solid skills and expertise in the craft and have a loyal following of collectors. Of course there are many more wonderful creative and skilled clay makers to meet at the show this year.

Murphy now convenes both the Guelph Potters’ Market and the Aberfoyle Potters’ Market with assistance from some local potters. Such richness in tradition and

innovation.
